KIDA is proud to announce that the 2012 KIDA Championship DVD will be produced by BandVideos.com. This new and exciting partnership will offer performers and spectators an excellent memento of their championship experience.
Additionally, individual unit performances will be available for purchase instantly at KIDA Championships, ensuring that you can purchase your proformance that day and enjoy it for years to come.
Because of this new partnership, all member units must submit a SYNC Form by February 1, 2012 to have their audio included on the championship DVD.

KIDA Announces 3rd Season of Consulation Coupon Offer
KIDA is proud to announce that for the 3rd season, KIDA will be offering a consulation coupon to member units. This coupon entitles member units to one FREE consultation session prior to January 28, 2012. This offer is good to all members in all competitive disciplines of KIDA.

KIDA Announces Green Initiatives for the 2012 Season.
Happy Earth Day KIDA! Today, KIDA is proud to announce several green initiatives for the 2012 season. These initatives will help the association financially in the near future as well as promote a green planet
Judging Sheets
Beginning at the start of the 2012 season, units will no longer be provided with individual judging sheets. The only sheets that a unit will be provided in 2012 will be the Timing and Penalty sheet and a recap sheet. This will help save pounds of paper a year by eliminating these sheets. Additionally, units will only be provided with the recap specific for their class at shows. Units will be able to final a complete recap of ALL KIDA shows online.
Karen Mooney Steps Down; Dan Rippon Named New KIDA Business Manager.
Karen Mooney, KIDA Business Manager for several season, officially announces that she will be stepping down from the position at the conclusion of the 2011 season. To fill this important position, the KIDA Board of Directors has announced that Dan Rippon will be filling the position starting immediately. Karen and Dan will work together to ensure a graceful transition.

Good evening everyone. Hard to believe that we have completed yet another successful season. It was great returning to the farm show this year and everyone seemed to really enjoy the arena. With the close of the 2011 season, I wanted to let you know that I am stepping down as the business manager. I have truly enjoyed working with each of you in this capacity and enjoyed getting to know all of you over the years. The gentlemen taking the business manager position for the 2012 season is Dan Rippon. Most of you already know Dan as he has been working the floor for the past few years.
Once again, it has truly been a pleasure working with all of you in this role and hope to continue to see all of you on the floor in 2012. Thank you for all of your time and support over the years. It has been greatly appreciated. Here is to a great 2012 season.

Mechanicsburg Percussion Finishes 6th at WGI Finals
One KIDA percussion unit participated in the 2011 WGI Percussion World Championships in Dayton, Ohio. Mechanicsburg Percussion of Mechanicsburg, PA competed in the Scholastic A classification. On April 14, Mechanicsburg placed 3rd in their preliminary round with a score of 90.813 (one of four prelim rounds), only 0.187 from winning the round. Moving into the semi-final round on the same night, Mechanicsburg finished 4th in the round (one of two) and was ranked 8th overall with a score of 88.550. Their performance cleared the way for the ensemble to participate for the first time in WGI Finals. For finals, Mechanicsburg improved by two spots to finish 6th overall with a score of 90.925.

Mechanicsburg Wins WGI Silver; Lampeter-Strasburg Successful in Open Class.
Two KIDA units participated in the 2011 WGI Color Guard World Championships in Dayton, Ohio. Mechanicsburg Color Guard of Mechanicsburg, PA competed in the Scholastic A classification. On April 7, Mechanicsburg won their opening round preliminary with a score of 91.10 (one of eight prelims). Overall, they were sitting third in the competition. Moving to the semi-final round on April 8, Mechanicsburg again won their division (one of four) and was sitting second overall with a score of 92.10. For finals, Mechanicsburg impressed the crowd finishing second overall, earning the WGI silver medal with a score of 94.30.

Lampeter-Strasburg Color Guard from Lampeter, PA completed in the Scholastic Open classification. During prelims, Lampeter-Strasburg finished 8th in their round and an extremely respectible 27th overall out of the 41 nationally recognized color guards competing in the Open Classification. The color guard missed making semi-finals by 3 spots.

The Mechanicsburg Winter Guard is excited to announce their 2011 production “The Carnival is Over” by the Dead Can Dance.
The 2011 staff includes WGI Hall-of-Famer Sal Salas, designer Joe Heininger, Rich Templin, Jeff Kahley, Jude Boughton, Mike Zablocki, Kelly Smith and Sam George. The Guard is under the direction of Ms. Kristy Templin.

About Lampeter-Strasburg Color Guard (courtesy of WGI)
Beautifully outfitted in blue uniforms with a flowy sheer skirt, Lampeter-Strasburg bring a show based off of “Into the West.” The members perform this show about sailing across the water with poise which is evident in their movement and equipment work. To add depth, sheer fabric is pulled cleverly out of the trick floor to depict the feeling of sailboats on water.
KIDA Wishes Three Units the Best of Luck At WGI Championships
KIDA Would like to wish three of our units the best of luck as they go to compete at the 2011 WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio. Competing April 7-9 in the Color Guard Championships will be the Mechanicsburg Color Guard of Mechanicsburg, PA and the Lampeter-Strasburg Color Guard from Lampeter, PA. Competing the following weekend during the Percussion Championships will be the Mechanicsburg Percussion Ensemble, also of Mechanicsburg, PA.
As a member of KIDA, all units are eligible to substitute one KIDA sponsored show with a WGI sponsored show during the KIDA season. This show will be credited towards the total number of shows needed to qualify for KIDA Championships.
KIDA would like to congratulate the student, staff, and parents of these programs as they travel to Dayton for Championships.
Two KIDA Units Compete at WGI Regional Competitions
Over the past two weekends, two units from the Keystone Indoor Drill Association successfully participated in seperate WGI (Winter Guard International) Regional contests. Participating at the Eastern Color Guard Championships on March 19, the Mechanicsburg Color Guard of Mechanicsburg, PA, placed second in both preliminary (85.90) and finals (86.85) competition. The Mechanicsburg Percussion Ensemble, of Mechanicsburg, PA, competed at the Norristown Percussion Regional competition on March 26. At that show, Mechanicsburg placed first in preliminary competition (91.750) and second during finals competition (90.650).
As a member of KIDA, all units are eligible to substitute one KIDA sponsored show with a WGI sponsored show during the KIDA season. This show will be credited towards the total number of shows needed to qualify for KIDA Championships.

Four KIDA Units Compete at South Brunswick WGI Regional
This weekend, four units from the Keystone Indoor Drill Association successfully participated in the WGI (Winter Guard International) Regional contest. Participating at the South Brunswick regional competition were Lampeter-Strasburg Color Guard from Lampeter, PA, Mechanicsburg Color Guard of Mechanicsburg, PA, Red Land Color Guard of Lewisberry, PA, and Westminster Color Guard of Westminster, MD.
Scores for the show were as follows:
Scholastic Open Class
Lampeter-Strasburg High School – 72.9 (5th place)
Scholastic A Class
Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School – 82.0 (2nd place)
Westminster High School – 79.7 (7th place)
Red Land High School – 77.6 (8th place)
As a member of KIDA, all units are eligible to substitute one KIDA sponsored show with a WGI sponsored show during the KIDA season. This show will be credited towards the total number of shows needed to qualify for KIDA Championships.

After Several Season Missing, White Marching Percussion Returns
Because of the growth of quality percussion ensembles from within KIDA, it has been determined that the time was appropriate to reinstitute the White Marching Percussion classification. Effective March 5, three ensembles will complete in this classification. Those units are Allegany, Biglerville, and Littlestown.
Two KIDA Units Compete at Pittsburgh WGI Regional
This weekend, two units from the Keystone Indoor Drill Association successfully participated in the WGI (Winter Guard International) Regional contest. Participating at the Pittsburgh regional competition were Allegany High School Color Guard from Cumberland, Maryland and Lampeter-Strasburg Color Guard from Lampeter, PA. Both units found great success at the show.
Lampeter-Strasburg competed in the Scholastic A classification. During the preliminary round of competition early in the day, the Lampeter-Strasburg guard won Round 1 with a score of 73.20. Later in the day, LS won the Scholastic A Finals with a score of 74.20. The Allegany Color Guard competed in the Scholastic Regional A classification, which they won with a score of 79.00.
As a member of KIDA, all units are eligible to substitute one KIDA sponsored show with a WGI sponsored show during the KIDA season. This show will be credited towards the total number of shows needed to qualify for KIDA Championships.

30th Anniversary Season Officially Begins at Biglerville High School
The 2011 Keystone Indoor Drill Association has officially started. Even with the threat of early inclement weather, 19 schools from Pennsylvania and Maryland descended upon Biglerville High School to start off their seasons. While early in the season, the packed gym enjoyed many exciting performances, including a special exhibition appearance from the Villa Pirata color guard.
The KIDA season continues next week with two shows. Adams County counterpart Littlestown HS will stage the Bob Rippman Memorial show and the first Maryland show of the season will take place at Brunswick HS.
Join KIDA next week and throughout the 2011 season to experience the best in young talent and celebrate 30 years of KIDA.
Since we have been unable to find a host for the Preview Show on Jan 29, it has been cancelled. Thanks to everyone and their efforts to help find a location.
Good news is we do have a host already set up for 2012! Central Dauphin East High School has agreed to host the Preview Show in 2012
KIDA/WGI Show Substitution Approved by KIDA Membership
Thanks to everyone who voted! There has been an amendment in the KIDA Bylaws for the 2011 season; under IV Membership part C.
You will be able substitute one KIDA sponsored show with a WGI (Winter Guard International) sponsored show during a KIDA season and will be able to obtain credit for one show towards the total number of shows needed to qualify for KIDA Championships.
Any unit wishing to take advantage of this substitution must submit their request in writing or email to the association Business Manager by February 1st and upon completion of their participation in the WGI sponsored show, the unit must then submit proof to the association of their participation in the WGI competition.
Please refer to the Resources section on the website for the complete revised Bylaw amendment.
WGI World Championships - Dayton Ohio
KIDA would like to congratulate Mechanicsburg HS Platinum guard for their wonderful showing this past weekend at WGI Championships in Dayton. This was their first year competing in the Scholastic World Division (the highest division for scholastic units) and faired quite well at this highly competitive level.
On Thursday April 8th they finished 17th in Prelims with a score of 80.60, and then in Semi Finals on Friday April 9th they moved up to 16th place with a score of 79.90. Unfortunately, only the top 15 guards advance to finals. A heartbreaking place to finish.
To the staff and students at Mechanicsburg, we here at KIDA are quite proud of you and your accomplishments. Congratulations!
After much hard work, the new KIDA.org is prepared for launch. Over the next week, the current website will be pulled down and the new site will be launched. We hope that during this process, there will be no interruption of service, but with any change of this nature, the chance does exist. Please be patient as this transition is made.
