Bart Sword Memorial Award

The Bart Sword Memorial Award celebrates the contributions of instructors in KIDA.  At KIDA Championships, favorite instructor awards are presented at each session.  These are voted on by the performing members, parents, and spectators throughout each session.

The KIDA Favorite Instructor Award was named after Bart Sword.  Bart was passionate about color guard and KIDA. He started the extremely successful middle school program at North Hagerstown High School in the 1980's and was an integral part in starting an indoor program at Mechanicsburg High School through 2007.  Also, Bart judged and was the KIDA Color Guard Representative for many seasons. He took pride in assisting new instructors and helped to guide them through the activity. Bart was elected to the KIDA Hall of Fame in 2003.

Sadly, Bart passed away in 2017.  We greatly miss Bart, his huge smile and loving heart. We are honored that this award being given to instructors throughout the activity carries his name in his honor.
