Sam Forney Academic Scholarship
The Samuel B. Forney Memorial Scholarship celebrates the life of a beloved KIDA member. Sam grew up in the Greencastle-Antrim School District where he started his love of music as a trumpet player in the fourth grade. In 1977, Sam earned his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from West Chester University and later followed through in obtaining his Mater's Degree.​ Sam touched the hearts of students in the Greencastle-Antrim School District for 32 years where he taught various classes along with direction the high school field band, concert band, marching bad, indoor guard, indoor percussion and jazz ensembles. In 2001, Sam was honored by being inducted into the KIDA Hall of Fame for being instrumental in the continued success of music education. Sam lost his battle with cancer on November 10, 2013.

The Samuel B. Forney Memorial Scholarship provides one $500 scholarship in the Colorguard/Dance Division and one $500 dollar scholarship in the Percussion/Winds Division. The award will be determined by an independent committee and celebrated at the KIDA Championships.
