Percussion Classifications
World - This classification is for those units that have well defined personalities and are highly creative and unique. Some very sophisticated challenges are placed on these performers primarily through simultaneous responsibility and vocabulary. Performers are very experienced and fully trained. They explore innovative program concepts and strive to set new standards within the activity. Evaluation will be on the WGI World Class Sheet.​
Open - Advanced Skill Sets This classification is for those units who have demonstrated a depth of training and skills that are consistent to one another, and are more challenging. There is greater consistency in the range of skills and physical development. The design of these programs is often freshly unique and original. Evaluation will be on the WGI Open Class Sheet.​
A - Beginning and Basic Skill Sets This classification is for those units who have demonstrated basic skills within the indoor activity. Members are able to handle the highest degree of awareness and adherence to their style. The design offers creative programs, which show strong originality and variety. Evaluation will be on the WGI A Class Sheet.​
Regional A - Introductory or Elementary Skills This classification is for the unit that has had no experience in the indoor activity and has shown progress in development of their program. The unit members can produce a moderate level of appeal and emotion, as well as being aware of the stylistic responsibilities placed upon them. The design is creative and coordinates the elements in a moderate appealing manner. Evaluation will be on the WGI Regional A Class Sheet.

Concert Percussion - is groups that primarily utilize, but are not limited to, symphonic/orchestral percussion instruments. These groups do not march and do not utilize a traditional drumline within their program.
Standstill Percussion - is groups that use instrumentation and design elements similar to the Percussion (moving) classifications but do not march. These groups utilize a traditional drumline within their program.
